Incorrect Installation Of Whs

Hi,

I live in the UK and I have had whsv1 sitting on the shelf for ages and I know it's nearing its end, but I would still like to use it for a short while before I need to upgrade.

I bought the OEM system builders version and unfortunately, I couldn't make any sense of all the disks and the rules governing their usage. So mistakenly I just went ahead and installed it from DVD. I then registered it and got it going using the connector disk.

The disks that came with the Whs package are: The server installation DVD, the Home Server Connector CD, The Home computer Restore CD and the System Builder OEM Pre-installation Kit.

It was ok for a while until the hard drive went pop. It was an older one that was spare. I installed it again on another hard drive but I couldn't re-activate it online and I am limited to 30 days usage before I have to now ring up Microsoft.

My questions are:

1. If I contact Microsoft will they let me start from the beginning again?

2. Also, can I contact MS in the UK rather than the USA?

3. Why do I have to re-activate again. I only did it a few days previous to the Hd failure?

4. Is there a simple guide regarding how to use these disks for a single user as its a little confusing. I would like to use them as if I am a customer and require an easy and fast method to recover my system in case of failure. (There will only be me using the software)

5. One thing I have done is read a lot about putting the system disk on a different disk to the data back-ups. Is this allowable and is it better than just leaving as is?

6. Would WhsV1 be a viable option for usage Offline once support stops?

Any advice and pointers would be welcome.

Thank you.

P.S. Hope my message is posted in the right part of the forum.
