A couple of months ago I installed Asset uPnP on my HP MicroServer (WHS 2011) to stream FLAC audio to a Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 network player because WHS 2011 does not support FLAC natively. This works really well.
I have just been trying to reconfigure WHS 2011 to stream photos and video to non-Windows devices e.g. iPad, Windows Phone, Android tablet.
I had noticed for a while that when listing uPnP servers from a client two entries were displayed for the server; one would let me access media but the other listed nothing. Following the advice on this forum I logged in under the admin account and disabled streaming under Advance Sharing Settings. This has removed one entry from the list of uPnP servers, but it is the one that allows access to media on the server!
Under Server Settings>Media, Media Server is 'On' and access to the Pictures, Music and Video folders set to 'Yes'. Under Server Folder and Hard Drives>Server Folders sharing is set to 'Yes' for Guest access to these three folders. However nothing is listed when accessing the folders from a uPnP client on a mobile device e.g. Sitecom Media Controller on an iPad ('No entries' is displayed). If I were to re-enable Media Streaming for the Admin account the files would be available.
What I have done is install the trial version of KooRaRoo Media Server which works as expected, so I think I shall purchase this. However I am puzzled as to why the vanilla WHS 2011 will share media files to DLNA/uPnP clients when streaming is enabled on the admin account, but not when it is disabled but the server set to stream media. Why is this? What am I doing wrong? I assume it must be a permissions problem but Guest access is enabled for the relevant folders.
TIA
Andrew
