So I have a brand new, just arrived today, XPS 12. Lovely machine. But before I start messing around with it too much, I'd like to have a backup. Previous systems, this is always what I've done. But on this one, I get an error that the connector cannot install because another installation is in progress, or updates need to be installed. Well, I've installed updates, made sure all software that's on here is updated, and just for good measure uninstalled all of Dell's crapware in case that was running in the background and causing problems. No dice. Booted into safe mode, the install started, saw the server asked for my password, continued and then failed due to an "unknown error." I'm kind of out of ideas, at this point. I looked at the registry to make sure that nothing untoward is running that may be interfering, and it seems like everything that starts is drivers or the various new Intel services (Rapid Start, Quick Connect, that sort of thing). There's also a Dell "Quick Connect" piece of software that doesn't seem to do anything. I'd rather avoid really playing around with this machine without working backups (for one thing, the 6 partitions of various sizes eating up the small SSD seem absurd, I want to kill some but don't know what'll take out the machine), but right now I see no way to actually get them. Any ideas?
