Running WHS2011 with a single 2TB drive. The goal has always been to have a low power server because of the closet that it sits in. There is an additional 2TB drive in a hot-swap external dock that I use for backing up.
This past week I started running out of storage space, so I ordered a 3TB drive which is being delivered today.
In pulling the 2TB, I am thinking that maybe I can put a notebook drive or an SSD in with the new 3TB to be the OS drive. This would give me a base drive that, when I need to go to 4TB, would not require a new OS load and configuration. Becuase it is a small drive it should fit into my case (mini ITX) and not push the power consumption up by more than a watt or two.
Or, is the reinstall painless enough that doing it again is quick and easy. I am assuming that there is no way to "recover" from the external 2TB drive once I have the new drive installed, right?
Thoughts?
