I read Terry Walsh's Building a Windows 8 Home Server and decided to convert my HP EX495 which was running WHS2011 to Windows 8 Pro server. I replaced the boot drive with a SSD that I had loaded W8P onto. The EX495 came is working and I am satisfied with its operation.
I installed WHS2011 as a VM using VirtualBox as instructed in the ebook. This also is functioning properly (remote desk top and web access both function). My issue is regarding the installation of WHS2011 connector. I was able to install the connector on the WP8 server and setup backup. However, I have two client machines also running W8P that I cannot get the connector to install. On both client machines I get the same "Cannot connect the computer to the server because either another installation is in progress....." message. I can remote desktop and access the shared folders from both clients.
I have exhaustively searched for a solution to this and the two predominant solutions I seem to find are regedit rename "PendingFileRenameOperations" value which I do not have and verify that .net 4 is installed, I have latest 4.5 installed.
I am using WHS2011 for client backup, Keepvault backup and remote access. The W8P is utilized for file share, media storage, etc.
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has a solution to this to please kindly post your recommendations.
Thanks!
