OK, I have a customer that took my advice and we installed an HP EX485 MSS running WHSv1 some while ago as a backup to her Server 2k3 poweredge and workstations in her small office. We added a second HDD later and turned on Disk Duplication. She informed me 3 days ago that the WHS makes "weird sounds". When I came on site, I found the EX485 to be constantly rebooting. It comes on, the power light come on what I think it aqua/white and is solid. The Health light then startes to flash Aqua/white then red. The red LED shows up a total of 5 times. Then the Health light flashes Aqua/White either 10 or 11 times and then 1 quick red flash and the server shuts off. it stays off about 2 seconds then powers up and repeats the same process/sequence. This is with the second HDD removed and only the system drive installed. If I remove the system drive, the exact same thing happens but instead of the Health light turning that last quick flash of red, it turns what looks like white and shuts off. Then reboots and repeats the sequence again. I get this same sequence if I put a brand new never used new drive in where the system drive was with no other drives installed.
The network light NEVER comes on at all. I have verified the connection and cabling are good. I do see random flashes on the port light on the switch. But the rear link light/traffic lights nor the front net light ever come on.
I never get any lights to come on next to the HDD's except when I press the power button to stop the reboot cycles. If I do that they flash one very quick time then the server shuts off.
I have looked at the lights legends I have found on line and in the users manual. None seem to match the sequence I am seeing. Can someone PLEASE tell me what is going on?
