Faq: Things About Server 2012 (R2) Essentials That You Should Know Before Setting It Up

Sorry to hijack this, but instead of creating a new blog post with all the same info.... I'm just editing this one.

 

Please take a look at this thread, and if there are question you have about 2012 (R2) Essentials, or running a domain at home that haven't been answered already, please ASK AWAY!

 I am a total newbie that bought a server with 2012 Essentials to replace a dead HP WHS.

 

I just got the machine setup, and am a bit frightened by the wording of the help pages about connecting a client computer.

 

The pages seem to imply that connecting to the server will change user accounts on the existing computer, and that one will then have to manage the client computer from the server. 

 

I had wanted to just use the server to backup each computer on a daily basis the way I did under WHS.

 

What will change on the client computer after connecting it?  Will existing users still have their documents and configuration? 

 

Where can I find basic information on all of this.

 

Sorry to ask such a basic set of questions.
