I've recently installed WHS 2011 (previously using v1), and I'm having a difficult time getting drives to spin down & stay spun down. I'm using FlexRAID tRAID and created a large pool of 23 data drives, and there shouldn't be anything accessing those drives. I've run Process Monitor, and it seems that storageservice.exe and wmiprvse.exe are looking at the data on those drives. Does anyone have any suggestions, or has anyone had any success in getting drives to stay spun down?
EDIT: Just to update, I'm not convinced it's storageservice or wmiprvse... after watching process monitor and resource monitor, those both seem to indicate access to the drives without spinning them up. What I have discovered is that every hour at x:30, runtask fires up several different processes, and that's when my drives stat spinning up. It's just a matter of figuring out which one is causing the it.
