I have a HP EX487 with 3TB Red drives and one 750GB drive running the original version of Windows Home Server. The server is stock otherwise and my only complaint is that I cannot get the network port to run at gigabit speed. All my other equipment on my network works at gigabit speed.
I use my existing server as a media server throught the house to a number of xboxes and computers. I distribute movies, pictures and music. I also use the server as backup to all my computers.
I purchased an OEM version of WHS2011 to upgrade it but I never installed it.
Now I was thinking up upgrading to N54L as I got it for only $239 after rebates on Newegg. Being that the server is over 4 years old, I was wondering if it is time to upgrade.
What are your opinions of upgrading my server and using 2011 on it? Will I see a sizable performance increase? I presume I can reformat my hard drives and reuse them.
I also purchased a SiliconDust HDHomeRuns Prime and hoped to have it use the WHS to store my recordings.
Please let me know your thoughts and recommendations.
Thank you
