Good day to all you football fans.
I am a very OLD school computer user, so forgive my ignorance in some of these matters. But, just because I am ignorant, does not mean I am a dummy.
I have 2 locations in which I use computers. I was considering using NAS drives for each location, and working to get them to mirror each other nightly. (Generally, files used in the locations are not being shared. We just want to mirror the files for backup purposes)
However, I ran into an "odd" problem with NAS drives. When I revert to my familiar windows command prompt, and try the DIR command on an NAS drive, zero files are found, and zero directories are found. My understanding is because the NAS devices are Linux based, I will never be able to read the files from a Windows command prompt. I have been trying to find a solution to this for 2 years without success.
So, as much as I despise giving Microsoft any more of my money, perhaps I will have to use a couple of their servers to accomplish my goal:
1. Local NAS usage.
2. Mirror usage from a remote location.
My questions are:
1. Is Windows Server a good solution as an NAS?
2. Is Windows Server a good solution for remote mirroring?
3. Where do I start?
I live in Northwest Orange County, and would be willing to utilize the services of a professional to build/install/prove to me that everything works. For the most part I want to set it, test it, verify on a daily basis that I have a working configuration, and forget it.
Best regards. From what little I have read, I like.
