I built a WHS2011 PC 6 months ago primarily for using WSUS, but have enjoyed putting Connector software on my PCs too and they are getting backed-up automatically.
I only recently started to use WHS2011 to share files stored thereon, and find that when I try to access certain shared folders using W7 Explorer I get "Windows cannot access \\SERVER\Downloads" and "You do not have permission to access \\SERVER\Downloads. Contact your network administrator [gulp] to request access." Yet when I use Dashboard to review the Server Folders properties, I see the User Account for this PC is listed with a Read/Write access level.
When I compare this W7 PC to another, I see that all the WHS2011 Connector services are Started. And from this other W7 PC (with different User Account) I have no trouble accessing the shared folders.
But from this problem PC, when I run Launchpad and log-in to *it* using the problematic User Account, now I can access the shared folders from its Shared Folders selection, and also can open Network using Explorer and gain access that way where I could not before. So Launchpad is needed every time to access shared folders? What has suprised & puzzled me about this is that from a different W7 PC (and different user account) I can use Explorer to access these shared WHS folders without having to use LaunchPad at all.
So why on this one PC is using Launchpad a requirement to gain access to these shared folders? Shouldn't it be the case that if the same User Account on the PC is set-up on the Server with the same password, that when logged-in to the W7 PC that user has full access to folders that are shared to it e.g. Read/Write access?
Another odd thing is that you can set Sharing permissions using Explorer or Dashboard, and if Set in one of these, then the other reads as Custom (vs. say Read/Write). With WHS2011 are you only supposed to set Sharing permissions using Dashboard?
