Three weeks ago I got a popup saying there was trouble on one of the data drives & I should try to "Repair" it. I did, & all was fine, for 2 weeks, then the popup came back again.
I figured the drive was dying & as I was busy I shut the server down figuring I'd get to it this weekend. (sorry, I don't recall the exact error message, but I don't think it matters)
Now when I try to restart the server the power light comes on, I hear the fan & drive spin up, the hard drive light (on the left of the front panel) comes on for 8 seconds, then has 2 brief flashes & that's it.
The box sits with the power light & the network light on. (network light occasionally flashes)
When I log into my router it says the server isn't connected.
The system has been trouble free for about 3 years.
Here I was worried about how to add in a new drive & now it seems that will be the easy part.
How can I trouble shoot a box with no monitor?
Please guide me....
Edit: I continued to try this & that.. Removing the data drives allowed it to boot up. Then I added the data drives while it was running & have full access.
Now on to the problem.. how do I determine which drive is failing? I have duplication on all my shares. & I'm running 2 identical WD 2TB drives.
