Hi,
I've got an Acer H340 which I use exclusively as a backup appliance.
I've added a new desktop computer to the backup routine. There's quite a bit to backup so I just added a drive to the server and there should be enough space for now.
I've started to backup the new desktop and it seems to be working. It's at the "Sending data to the server." stage.
However, the transfe rate is very slow and it will take days to finish the backup at this rate. The desktop is running Windows 8.1 preview. The desktop and the H340 are both connected to a gigabit switch.
I know that the connection beween them is working okay as I can open up a shared folder on the H340 and copy a large file and see through the Task Manager (in Windows 8 there's a nice Ethernet throughoutput panel in the Task Manager that shows the transfer rates in and out) that it transfers the file from the desktop to the server at up to around 600 Mbps (which is reasonable for a gigabit connection).
But while the backup is running, it's only transferring at 50 Mbps.
Is it normal that backup transfer is so slow or is something wrong? Why should backup transfer be 10x slower than file transfer?
Thanks!
