Trying out lights out, need some assistance. I looked at the above photo, and two items are circled, magic packet and pattern match, pattern match is highlighted and disabled. Am I to disable magic packet as well?
When I first setup lights out, I initiated a suspend, but as soon as I brought my laptop up, it brought up the server as well. From the above photo I decided to disable BOTH items circled above. Doing this, when I bring the laptop out of sleep, the server stays asleep (this is what I wanted), but if I try to access the dashboard or the remote desktop, server is staying asleep and the laptop tells me it can't find it. How do I correct this?
Basically, I'm hopeful that I can setup lights out to sleep unless the server is access by remote desktop, dashboard, or from the network/server/folders (i.e. within exporer, select the server to view the shared folders...) IIRC, that last part, if the server is asleep long enough it probably isn't going to show under the network computers, but if there is a way around that, I would like to know.
I see lights out is pre-defined to wake up at 12-8 for client backups, but I was wondering if it will also wake at 11am to do its server backup?
I've read the above link, but I'm still not sure what to try/change to accomplish what I want to do here.
Adding a little more info here.
I only installed lights out to the server (do I need to install to clients too to accomplish the above wants?)
Under Monitoring I have the following selected
Windows Home Server Computers
IP based clients (what is this for?)
Remote access (assume this is for remote web access?)
Awake during backup hours of 12am to 8am
Also checked are the following
Monitor Console session
Monitor Remote Desktop Session
Monitor Shares
Any input is appreciated.
Update, Lights out installed on laptop
