I need help removing a Win7 client from a WS2012E domain before performing a clean Win8 install and connecting it back to the same domain with the same name. Last time I tried it didn't work:
- From the WS2012E dashboard, I used the "Remove the Computer" option. I also removed all backups associated with the client.
- Using Control Panel | System and Security | System | Advanced System Settings | System Properties | Computer Name/Domain Changes, I changed the client from a member of a Domain to a member of a workgroup.
- Rebooted evenything
Attempting to reconnect the client to the WS2012E domain was unsuccessful. Running Connect.exe gave me a vague error that no amount of googling could decipher. I ended up with a bare metal rebuild of my WS2012E server to get the client to connect.
What did I do wrong and what can I do differently so the new Win8 client will connect to the WS2012E domain?
