I recently set up a WSE 2012 server for my small business. All went OK with the install except that the the VPN service failed. At the time I did not worry as Remote Web Access worked first time and I did not think we had a use for VPN.
Anyhow, a month or so after setting up, the employees that are on the road (mainly sales people) are now able to get access to Word, Excel, PDF files on the servers shared folders that were previously "office bound". They use RWA for this by "manually" downloading the file, editing it and then uploading it back again. They like the facility but they are now asking if they can get access to the files and use them as they would in the office i.e. open a file, edit it and do a File >> Save within the local (laptop) application which would save directly back to the server folder.
My question is: Does setting up a VPN allow this type of remote access to files maybe via a mapped drive?
