I've been using whs v1 for many years on an old Pentium machine & like it a lot. Decided to upgrade to whs 2011. Bought a cheap HP machine pre-installed with win 8. I wanted to set up a dual boot, so that if I didn't like WHS 2011, I would still have a win 8 machine. Went into Win8, shrank the operating partition to free up 1 TB of unallocated space. Then tried to install whs 2011, but got a "secure boot validation error." Figured out how to disable secure boot and enable legacy bios, and set it to boot from the whs DVD. Tried to install from the DVD (OEM version if it matters), got through the "windows is loading files" screen, the "starting windows" screen, then to the "installing windows" screen. At this point, I cannot select either option as the keyboard and mouse have become nonfunctional. The keyboard "num lock" light and the mouse laser light are both lit until midway through the "starting windows" screen, then both go out.
Why am I losing keyboard and mouse function?
Installation hangs at this point.
Thanks for your help.
