Is My Primary Drive Toast? What's My Options?

Hi folks,

I'm having issues with my WHS v1, so I'm not sure what kind of responses I'll get, but...

I just returned from a business trip, and noticed I could not connect to my WHS (Acer H340). The lights were all blue, so I did a reboot, and the hard drive lights never came back on.

I have a debug board on my WHS, so I connected it to a monitor to see what happens. After a reboot, it goes directly into a recovery install, and loads up the Windows files, drivers, etc.

If I use the WHS Recovery CD on a client machine, it says 'network error' when it tries to do the actual recovery.

The "WHS_Recovery_Server.exe" window on the WHS says "Listener Created" and after the client tries to start the recovery it says 'No Primary Disk Found'

I disconnected all other drives, except the primary, and it still does the same thing as listed above.

I suspect my primary drive (1TB) is toast, agreed?

I don't have a spare drive at the moment, so I'll get one soon, however, I thought I'd get some confirmation here first.

I do have a couple of questions though;

1. where is the recovery files that it is automatically running? On the primary drive on some partition? (I do have the WHS CDs if I need them)

2. If I put a new drive in, and reinstall the OS, should I keep my other drives connected, and will it see the existing files?

Thanks for any comments,
