Current Problem Affecting All Tranquil Homeservers

Hello,

I would just like to use this forum to inform everyone of the experience I'm having with my tranquil SQA-5H.

I will not go into detail about the whole 2 and a half months of trouble I've had with my homeserver and the non service I'm getting but I'll keep it short.

Beginning of June I tried to restore a program from one of my backups (world of warcraft). It turned out it was corrupt even though WHS integrity checks and such said it was ok. I contacted tranquil about it and after some communication back and forth they told me "it is a known problem with the SIL card and it affects all of their homeservers and that they can reproduce it on any of their WHS machines".

In a system with a lot of hard disks the SIL card (which is the PCI card that connects drives 3 -> 5) can sometimes not handle the load properly they say and will cause corrupt data. So far this is only the case with backups. The bad side is that you will not know if you have this issue until you actually try to restore something (restoring in itself will work, but actually using the data, such as a program, might fail). The disk sometimes disconnects during use and reconnects itself, so you might miss this happening but it does show up in the windows event log.

I have RMAed my unit to tranquil which has now had it for over 2 months and still not found a solution. Also instead of keeping me updated they remain silent until I go into live chat and then I usually get 1 reaction in my support ticket and then utter silence. From what they told me they have quite a few customers with this problem. I'm surprised that I've yet to read anything online about it.

I'm currently very displeased with their customer server, over 2 months without my homeserver and no definite news on when I'll actually get my homeserver back. I find this unacceptable. They offered to send it back to me unfixed, but what good does that do me ?

At this point I can only give the advice not to buy from them in the hope that I save someone the frustration of restoring a backup and having corrupt data instead of the data they were hoping for.
