I've never virtualized anything, yet. I have a vague understanding in which I run an operating system within an operating system and they somehow play friendly with mutual hardware, etc.
What I want to know is if there is a reason I should do this?
My main rig: i7 2600K, 32gb RAM, W7Pro - gaming, all around machine that I use to control everything else.
My server: i5 2500k, 8gb RAM, WHS2011 - 40tb of file/media storage
I find myself RAAdmin'ng a lot into the server to manage/manipulate the files, etc. I want a WHS2011 box to access my stuff when travelling, as well as MyMovies add-in, and centralized backup.
I believe I have the power to virtualize and the extra RAM - but I'm concerned about how difficult it would be/what sacrifices I would have to make by combining these two machines...
Can someone point me to a tutorial and a good VM program? I use Drive Bender to pool all 40TB.
Thanks in advance.
