Solved! PP1 Connector Install Problems - This Operation Cannot be Completed at this time

I recently had real problems with the PP1 connector installation not getting past the password screen. It would always say "This operation cannot be completed at this time" and then give you no information, no nothing, just a back button for it to annoy you again.

After much scouring of the internet I didn't find anyone that actually fixed the problem without doing a server reinstall which I find ridiculous. I have now fixed this problem without a reinstall and I decided to grace everyone with this new found knowledge.

Before I start I did absolutely everything everyone suggested previously with no luck:

Turned of my internet connection (possible dns issues)
Connected my computer directly with a cross over cable
Fixed ip and DHCP style networking
Edited HOSTS file with and without my server added
Tried replacing the Home Server Connector Software files with ones stored on C:\WHS
Tried installation directly from server, also copied locally and tried that
Went to the internal server webpage to download the "WHSconnectorInstall" file

Absolutely none of these worked.

Now Im going to go through what I did step by step as this worked for me.

1) Download the PP1 package from Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

2) Copy this file to "\\server\Software" folder

3) Turn off internet connection

4) Log into the server via remote desktop

5) Stop any extra services that you might have running I had uTorrent, Tversity, PeerGuardian

6) Run the Home Server Console go to Shared Folders tab and make sure the user access for Software is set to Full for all accounts

7) Uninstall the PP1 (Power Pack) package. This can be found in Add / Remove programs, you might need to check the little check box at the top to show updates

8) Dont restart just yet, Grab your WHS connector CD. Put it in your computer (not your server) and copy the contents of it to "\\server\Software\Home Server Connector Software". Before you do this make sure this folder is empty.

9) Now restart, your server should be back to how it was before the PP1 install.

10) Log back into server via Remote Desktop, repeat step 5 (stop extra services)

11) Copy the PP1 package that you downloaded in step 1 and place it on the desktop of the server

12) Install this Package, Let it restart once done

13) Restart your own machine

14) Log back into the server and stop the extra services again if you have any running.

15) Log out of the remote desktop session

16) Click on start>run then type in "regedit" and hit ok. Navigate to the registry key "[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\WHSKeys]" and delete it (I made a backup of this key just in case by right clicking > export)

17) Navigate to "\\server\Software\Home Server Connector Software" you should now see a load of new files which have been created in the install process

18) Copy WHSConnectorInstall.exe to your desktop and run it

19) This should do the usual install, only this time when you get to the password screen it will actually get past it instead of giving you that annoying error.

20) Restart both machines for good measure and all done.. PP1 Connector installed and running!
