Judging by the responses to my initial post on my experience with the GData HomeServer anti-virus, it was clear to me that many users were having problems with this product, and that as a result it would not be a great commercial success.
Today, I've noticed the first signs that GData may very well have abandoned the Homeserver anti-virus product all together. I base this observation on 2 facts:
- I am no longer able to renew my subscription for the product through the secured customer website. When I checked this a few weeks ago, it provided me with the ability to renew my subscription for 1, 2 or 3 years. Today I'm confronted with a message that loosely translates to "Unfortunately due to technical reasons you are unable to renew your license yourself. Please contact the G Data Service Center at ##########".
- The Internet Security for HomeServer product can no longer be found on any of the international or regional websites of GData
I'll be contacting GData's customer services department for more information, but to me it seems that after Avast, GData has also abandoned their HomeServer anti-virus product. An understandable business decision after Microsoft themselves have abandoned the HomeServer altogether, but not something that you can be happy with as a customer.
