I have played with WHS on a HP machine and then went away from a server. I recently put some spare parts and new parts together for my server.

I have:
CPU: Celeron G540
MOBO: Asrock H61M-ITX
RAM: 4GB DDR3-1333
System Drive: 750GB WD Blue - 2.5"
Storage Drives: 3 x 2TB WD Green
RAID Card: Sil3124
PSU: Antec VP-350P - 350w
Case: M-ATX that I had sitting around.

First problem, could not load from OEM DVD. Error message stating that boot was missing. Fixed by using Microsoft USB creater tool and booting/installing from USB.

Second problem, did not pick up network port on motherboard. After a couple of restart loops, I worked out to put in driver disk and load drivers. Fixed.

Third problem, RAID card did not pickup. Downloaded drivers from Silicon Image and installed, still no go. Luckily I had a drivers disk that came with the card. Loaded the disc and let the system find the driver from the disk. Fixed.

Connected my 3 storage drives and then installed drivepool. I left out the remaining disk space from my system drive so that it could be used for backups.

Data is slowly being copied across to the server from an external drive.

I have noticed that the install was slow, not sure that was due to the CPU or RAM. Once the system is running, no problems at all.

Thought I would share my experience at setting up WHS 2011.
