Hi all,
Please can someone help me?
I have taken delivery of a shiny new HP ProLiant Microserver. I also ordered 2 x WD Red NAS 2Tb Hard Disks at the same time.
I took the instructions at face value, and loaded them into the drive trays, shoved them in, and powered up. And nothing. Having investigated, I don't think the power sockets are in the same place as the pre-installed Hard Drive. So I don't think they're connected.
I've spent half the afternoon searching the internet, and on web chat to HP. And I can't find a straight answer to if my drives are compatible, and if so, as to how to connect them. I haven't yet plucked up courage to take the server apart and start prodding and poking at wires.
I /have/ seen somewhere someone recommending the drives I've bought as good for the MicroServer - so I have hope. (Despite HP's - these aren't amongst our recommended drives warnings).
BUT ... My biggest concern is that the pre-installed drive appears to have some kind of 4 pin socket which I am assuming is where the power goes in. But my shiny new WD Red NAS disks have 8 pin (4x2) sockets in approximately (but not exactly) the same place on the back of the disk.
I'd be extremely grateful for any advice and guidance anyone can offer to get my disks in and installed. (Or, if needs be, the bad news that I've been an idiot and bought the wrong drives - in which case (a) what should I get, and ( anyone want to buy 4Tb of premium HD storage??!!).
Please assume minimal technical knowledge when answering. My fingers are crossed for a simple and reassuring answer. 'Cos right now I am frustrated, stumped, feeling stupid and silently weeping.
Thanks,
Rob
