Acer Whs H340 V1

Hi,

I am very familiar with computers and have built my own for over 20 years. However, I am a novice at servers (although I feel like I've gotten a crash course with all the problems with the Acer H340!).

My problem is that anytime I shut down my server, in order to reboot, I have to remove the three non-primary drives and then wait for the server to start booting with only the primary drive, and then replace them after the boot process as well on its way. I have not heard of this problem before, and it has nearly driven me nuts identifying it. The specifications of my system are below. The three nonprimary drives are all 2 TB Western Digital Blacks (enterprise edition).

The server worked perfectly for almost a year. However,it has taken me various attempts over the past months with my multiple re-installations to try to identify the problem (I have also been through the nightmare of removing McAfee, the incorrect information in the Acer manual on how to do a hard reboot and lastly removing files in the shared folder that generated the message "cannot find the specified path.").

Acer, McAfee and Microsoft ... A perfect storm. The online support information available from all three companies has been useless for any of my problems.

This website forum has been a godsend through the process. And thanks so much to the author of Advanced Administration Console. Both have been a lifesaver!

If anyone has an idea (perhaps the drives are the problem or possibly I need a jumper on them), I would appreciate any suggestions. It is a real pain to have to pull out three drives and then reinsert them just to reboot the server.

One additional comment. The Windows server shows all four drives healthy. I installed Belarc Advisor on the server and ran it. It shows one of the

enterprise hard drives as failing the SMART test. Tonight, I am removing that hard drive from the array and will run tests on the drive as a secondary drive in another computer.
