Hi all.
I've been a WHS V1 and WHS 2011 user for some time. My server was a Tranquil BBS2 that was working very well until recently. Due to problems with the HW I decided to upgrade to a HP proliant ML110 G7 (standard system with 2GB DDR3).
I want to be able to put this machine into standby (as I did with my BBS2) and for it to only turn on when I power up one of my home PCs or the PS3 (for movies). I've installed lights out and enabled hibernation with the powercfg -h command. All is good with the shutdown but, for some unknown reason, the recovery out of hibernation is failing _most_ times. During the boot up, I get the option of deleting the restoration data and continuing, or to restart the boot.
I'm not clear on what's happening here. Any ideas? I've tried disabling hibernation and then re-enabling (to create a new hiberfil.sys) but this hasn't helped.
Is there any other way to get lightsout to work. Does my server need to hibernate (standby is not supported on the ML110). Can the PC do wake on lan if it's off (with the NIC enabled)?
I've also been dabbling with WOL over the internet. For this I changed the WOL settings on the NIC card (essentially just enabling WOL and magic packet detection in the driver). I assume this isn't related in any way?
Any help of this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
M.
