Windows 8 Live Id User Accounts

What's the secret for adding Windows Live user accounts (from Windows 8) as users on Home Server? It doesn't like the @ in the user account name, but I'm not sure how it sees connections from client machines. The server tells me that I don't have permission and I have to use a standard user account when I connect to network shares.
