OK guys, this requirement has come out of a need I have for managing Pictures. With the thousands of files that we have on our server, there's no way to remember what you have stored, and if a file(s) end up missing you may never ever know. So my question, is there an application that can be used to monitor your data, and log the file name, Checksum, and size, file date added to inventory, etc etc. If I lost some files do to data curuption, HDD failure, or just upgrading to a new system, I would have to trust that my backups are good, and that all the necessary files where restored properly.
It would be nice to be able to compare the files at a cetain point in time to files from a previous date to see if any files are missing. I think a simple data base that can kick out an excel file would be sufficent, but it would also be great to have active monitoring to provide alerts when files in the inventory disappear, kind of a proactive notice to start looking for the file in old back ups so it can be restored before the backup set is perged.
