I've just ordered 4 of the new WD Caviar reds (WD20EFRX) and will be using a Highpoint RocketRAID640 to run them in my WHS2011 box.
Now, I'm told that I'll have a few decisions to make when I first install them.
The highpoint RAID setup will ask me to choose sector size, and stripe size. I assume as the reds are new/modern, I should use 4k sectors, but what about the stripe?
Whats the best stripe size for all round performance? I'll be storing a wide variety of files on it, everything from small office files, to large HD video files.
Also, as these 4 drives in RAID 5 will become a single 6Tb volume, should I use it as such? Or would it be best to partition it for easier backup?
I've heard that WHS2011 doesn't play nice with volumes >2Tb?
Thanks.
