New to the forums, been reading some good info here. I've done a few searches but havent been able to find any input on my particular dilema.
I've got an N40L, removed the 250GB disk it came with and populated all 4 drive bays with Seagate Barracuda ES.2 - 1TB disks.
I went into the BIOS and switched it from AHCI to RAID - Hit CTRL-F to get into the RAID config, set the array type to 10 and selected all 4 disks to be part of the array. Did the fast initialization and the array reports as functional. I reboot as told.
Boot Win 7 DVD via USB DVD drive - when I get to the point where I pick which disk/partition to install windows to, I am not presented with a single 2TB disk as I would expect. I am presented with a pair of 1TB disks, neither of which are selectable to install windows on.
I've also tried building the array as Raid 1 with only 2 disks, in the Raid Bios it looks good, but when I get to the point where Win 7 asks which disk/partition to install to, it shows 2 separate disks instead of a single 1TB disk.
How the heck do I build an array and install an OS on it???
The goal of my system is outlined below:
I know most people frown on the N40L's built in RAID, but I cant run this as a pure NAS with freenas/flexraid/unraid. I want to use windows 7 because it will be hooked directly to my receiver/TV and I want to use Windows Media Center / XMBC. The next question people will ask is... why use 4 1TB disks in Raid 10? Answer - I got them for free. 2TB is plenty to run the OS and use for staging/backups/etc.
This box is replacing my existing Dell Optiplex 755 and a crappy 2 bay TrendNet NAS for my HTPC and network storage needs. I've stuffed the N40L with 8GB Ram and an Nvidia GT 520 along with a Highpoint 622 eSATA controller connected to a 5 x 3TB enclosure for about 12TB usable space.
All I need to do is figure out how the heck to install the OS with the built in RAID!?!
Thanks
