with the demise of WHS I have decided that it would be really cool if I could either:
a) build a new server based on open-source Linux software
or

build a new server based on Windows 8
However, for me, the "Killer App" is the backup feature of WHS. It would be very hard for me to justify losing this capability, and I was wondering if there are any comparable programs out that can do a full backup and full restore of Windows partitions, either Windows-based or Linux based. All other functionality (webserver, DLNA, filesharing, etc..) can be replicated with other software easily, but not backup, it seems...
I've upgraded my machine to Windows 8 already and my wife runs Windows 7. I've heard there are pretty severe compatibility issues with Windows 8 + WHS 2011, plus, since MS doesn't seem to want to continue developing the platform further, I think it's time for me to say goodbye to WHS as an OS, if I can. I'm currently running WHS v1 which works suprisingly well with W8, though there are some small problems that I only see growing in the future...
