Any recommendations?
I am going to replace my HP EX475. I am not interested in WHS, since I get the impression that it is not really a priority for the software or hardware makers, but would like the following features:
- Energy savings (similar to Lights-Out in WHS or Synology's offering of capable hibernation)
- Dead-simple windows backup - Hopefully Pulling my backup rather than making me push it (similar to WHS at present) and doing it reliably and without corrupting my open files (similar to WHS at present). Ideally I do not want to have to purchase 3rd party backup software and get on its learning curve after I buy the device.
- a good company that offers support if-when things go wrong. I'd go witih Seagate, Iomega or Western Digital (so as to have integrated drives and device all from the same place) but I can't quite seem to find the energy savings (WD maybe in the higher devices?).
I am a simple non-professional. I just want completely simple no-hassle windows backup for when my client drives die. That's all I want. Not interested in USB regular manual procedures or in devices which draw significantly more power than is needed 24x7x365.
For now, I am staying away from the cloud and off-site.
Anyway, there you have it. Sorry if the post is a bit forward, but I'm a bit frustrated. It's more than 20 years now I've been occassionally suffering data losses and getting lectured or lecturing myself that backups are necessary, and here we are and it's still a hassle to find a place that wants to make a fool-proof non-manual onsite not-energy-wasteful windows backup a total no-brainer.
