I have an urgent problem. For years now I have been religiously backing up my laptop (HP Folio) via WHS 2011. Today the laptop failed, it hung loading windows 7. I restored the factory default Windows 7 copy from the D: drive and Windows 7 came right up.
I then installed the WHS 2011 Connector and could see the WHS backups on my server. You can imagen my surprise when WHS proceeded to designate my laptop as a new computer. It would not allow me to overwrite the C: drive to the file state I had yesterday. Even when I set the name of the laptop exactly as before. This seems to defete the whole purpose of a backup! I can copy individual files and some folders across. Fortunately Acronis backup saved my neck, but unfortunately its a month old backup.
What am I missing here? Should WHS not allow one to overwrite a complete disk image for a total backup? I would think it would allow one to clone a disk (for a crash). Is the some aspect here I'm totally missing?
Any help will be appreciated as I have critical data at stake.
