I don't know if I learned something new here, or if it's the way XP works with whs2011. I setup an XP box and to install the connector software you have to enable passwords on the XP machine. I don't know if you have to create an account with a password, or just enable it and maybe set a password for the default Administrator account, but I enabled passwords, created an account for me with admin privileges and assigned it a password.
After installing the connector software and a later reboot, I noticed Launchpad logged in automatically, I didn't fill in anything. The only thing I could think of is that account I created on the XP machine was the exact same user name and password as the account that I had set myself up with through the dashboard on my server many years ago. I also noticed in the Launchpad on the XP machine that the pull down menu for settings and sign out, only offers settings, no way to sign out.
I assume this is the way it was designed to work, also assume it would work that way on other OS client PC's. I just happen to not use that exact name and password on any other client.
Makes me wonder what would happen if I had that same user name and password on two or more clients and was logged in on them at the same time, how the Launchpad would handle that?
I also noticed that with the XP machine setup that way, and with that account, I didn't have to enter the admin and password for the server to view the shared folders on the server, they just open.
