I need to replace my existing WHS 2011 rig and thought I'd build a Hyper-V server based on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and running two VM's
VM's:
1. Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials
2. Sophos UTM Home Edition 9.2 Firewall
My plan is to build the servers using the following components
MB: Asus P9D-X
CPU: Xenon E3-1230 v3
Mem: 2 * Kingston DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz ECC CL11 8GB (KVR16E11/8
System disk: 2 * 120 Gb SSD in a RAID 1 config
For the main storage, I have 4 Samsung 1 Gb HDD that I can use, question is if I should build a RAID 5 volume of them and have the WS2012R2 VM using that raid set as the main disk. I'll store mainly photos and some videos.
from a hardware perspective, does it looks ok? I'll still have some reading up to do on the setup of VM 's in WS2012R2..
Cheers
