I had an idea earlier today that will likely involve far more work than I'm willing to put into it, but I figured, why not at least flesh it out.
To start: My setup - ESXi 5.1 with Virtualized WHS2011, 2 W7 VMs and 1 Ubuntu VM
Goal: Virtualizing an application.
At my office, I have certain applications that run (we use Citrix) sort of as cloud apps. They reside somewhere on one of our services, and when I click to open them on my desktop, I get the Citrix loading screen, than bam its there (like Excel 2010 with a certain ODBC connection). I figured out that they are running on a virtual machine once because there was a problem and excel closed and I found myself staring at a desktop in a VM.
I would like to set up something similar at home. Essentially, I want to run GnuCash almost as an online service. Ideally I would use my WHS2011 remote access to run it anywhere, but I'd settle for just having it run on any of my machines at home. I know I could just install it on a existing VM (or a new VM) and just connect to it the way I do to any other VMs, but in the interest of pushing the envelope and my own curiousity, I'm interested in making it as seemless as possible.
With my set up, is this possible? What would I use? Anyone done anything like this before?
Thanks!
