Hi,
I'm still running the now aging WHS v1 on the Tranquil PC SQA-5h unit. Lights Out 1.5.5.2136.
I thought I would give Lights-Out a shot. The basic functionality of staying awake and going to sleep when appropriate works. I can also wake the machine up using either the client or a generic WOL packet. What I am experiencing I guess are hardware issues which probably cannot be solved, but I thought I'd try here before I give up.
* If Lights Out is set to send the server to suspend what happens is that the hard drives spin down, all the services are shut down but the unit stays on: the fan keeps spinning and all the lights stay on. Waking it up brings it up straight away, but it probably isn't saving my very much power in this state.
* If Lights Out is set to send the server to hibernate, it does so perfectly well. However a WOL doesn't then properly wake the server up. Drives seem to spin up, the power lights are on but POST doesn't happen. If I press the power button it just switches the machine off immediately (rather than going through the shut down). Then when I turn it on again, the hibernation file is read in and the server restarts in its old state.
The funny thing is that if I shut down the machine fully, a WOL packet does turn it on normally, it goes throught he POST, so there isn't a problem there. Somehow it just has an issue coming out of hibernate.
The motherboard on this thing is a Intel D945GCLF2 if that helps with any trouble-shooting. The network and graphics drivers are updated to the last(est) ones.
Has anyone had any luck with these units?
