Hi guys im still sort of new to servers ect.
I did have a server but had to give it to my youngest son to use as desktop now I got it back, I can finally get a server back on it.
So specs first
Case
Bitfenix prodigy
I will be swapping the case for a Fractal design node 804(just because I like the look of it)
Motherboard
Gigabyte z77n-wifi
Cpu
Intel core i7 2600k
Ram
Corsair low profile 8gb
Optical drive
Lg bluray player (might be taking it out)
Graphjics
Im going to be using the cpu onboard graphics
Os Drive
For my os drive I can use either a 128gb ssd or a 230gb spinner
Operating system
Windows server 2012 r2 essentials
Display
55inch lg plasma (since this isnat a smart tv, I will be connecting the server to this via hdmi)
I do not know if it is at all revelant, my mothe rboard has x2 lan ports and wifi, my isp has also suppilied x5 staic ips.
For the storage pool, thi sis where im a bit unsure
in the case atm is x1330gb spinner, 250gb spinner.
Im my main machine atm I can take out a 3tb drive(which is full of music atm)
x1 1tb and a x1 2tb drives(these are in my main machine atm )
I also have the following external hds
x1 3tb western digital mybook essentials(I think it is)
x1 2tb Seagate.
What am I aiming or would like to do with this server is the following.
x3 pcs, x2 android tablets, x1 ipad mini,x1 mac book pro, x1 60inch lg 3d tv, x2 xbox 360s, x1 xbox one, x2 htc the one, htc one x+(smartphones), x1 apple iPhone 5s, and 1 iPhone 4(smartphones) and finally a old 55 inch plasma, in my computer room.
Mow what I would like to do is have all of the above have accsess to the following :
Movies
Pics
mp3s
Ebooks
Individual storage
Backups
Centralised backups
Centralised emails
Centralised virus checking
Centralised os updates(for the computers)
Is it possible to stream Netflix.now tv and the such form the server also ?
I am going to be buying the server 2012 essentials ebooks to help me do this.
Will the server build be up to this, bare in mind obviously everything wont be hitting the server at the same time.
Any tips or sugestions. reason for the os is I had a really really good deal on it, the kind of deal you cannot really say no to.
Anyhow what do you think.
