This is my last attempt to get WHS2011 working. It's been a bitter disappointment all around so far.
I have WHS2011 installed as a VM in Virtual Box, running on a Linux host. The install went great, and I can see the server folders on the other PCs in our house. However, when I try to install the connect software (via <server ip>/connect), right after putting in the password, I get:
Cannot connect this computer to the network
The server is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information, see Troubleshoot connecting computers to the server.
I have tried:
- Using the MS "FindMyServer" software. It found the server, but I still get that error.
- Disabling (via unchecking in the network adapter) IPV6 on both client and WHS2011
- Connecting with Windows 7 64 bit and Win XP SP3...same result for both.
- Setting a static IP, both in the router (reserved for the MAC address), and in the WHS2011 network adapter.
- Pinging the server from the client...it finds it.
I've tried other things too, basically anything google puked up, but so far no deal.
Could it be that it's because it's running in a VM? Sure...but I know from my searches that this is nowhere near a rare problem, and so far I've not seen anyone else find that to be the fault. Plus, all other aspects of connecting to the machine work fine.
I'm seriously disappointed I spent $50 on this @ newegg, but I'd still like to actually use it. I'd really appreciate some help, and I'll happily try whatever is suggested, even if I already tried it.
Thanks.
