Hello,
My aging Acer Aspire Easystore H340 died this weekend. I did some troubleshooting and based on several other threads on this forum, it looks like the PSU is dead. I tried to short out the pins as listed here (http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php/topic/20806-h340-power-supply-replacement/#entry117507) but there is no activity so all signs point to the PSU being dead.
Now I'm trying to recover all my precious data - family photos, personal financial documents and lots of other irreplaceable information. The server had 2 drives in it - 1TB main OS drive and a 2TB additional drive. The 1TB main drive appears to be fine when I plug it in to my laptop and I can recover data from it.
But the other 2TB drive says it needs to be formatted.. I tried a chkdsk but it says it's in RAW format so I can't read it at all. What are my options now?
- Try to find a replacement PSU? This seems to be impossible because the server is so old. Does anyone know where I can find one? Or does anyone have this server they're not using? I'll happily pay for it.
- Run recovery software like Easus on the RAW drive? Some preliminary research shows that it may not recover WHS data well.
- Try to buy a used H340, remove all of its drives and instead plug in my 2 drives in to it? Is this insane or could this work and bring my files as they were? Would this restore it and make it appear just like my old server?
- Plug in the RAW 2TB drive in to a Mac and see if it can read the files?
- Try to convert the drive to NTFS by using convert.exe? I suspect this will lose a lot of files so it seems really risky.
Does anyone have any advice for me? As you can imagine, I'm quite gutted about this
