I've been backing up my Xeon C600-based system (Asus Z9PE-D8-WS) to WHSv1 for a couple of years and I've recovered data disks with it no problem. But I wanted to restore my C: drive yesterday, and that means doing it offline from the Restore Disk: I've been unable to make the Restore Wizard see the drive which is connected to the Intel C600 Chipset of this motherboard. I also have a Marvel adapter on this mobo and those drives appear without issues.
Using the drivers off the mobo install disk, I can make the restore setup see all the drives on the system including C: as well as the NIC cards at enumeration by reading the driver files from a USB key. But this is the weird bit: once I get into the Restore Wizard, after I've connected to the WHS server, I don't see any of the drives connected to the C600 chipset any more. Disk Manager is missing them and is of no help.
It seems the chipset is recognized in the enumaration and the C: drive is seen, but not in the Restore Wizard. How could this be? I've just spent several hours trying everything I could think of and decided to post here in case someone has any idea of why this is so, and hopefully how to make this work.
One thing I did notice in the enumeration of the drives is that they all appear but then are followed in the listing with empty entries called "Sata 1", Sata 2", etc. Maybe I have to isolate the correct driver files from the C600 driver folder and ditch the others?
Thanks for any help!
