After some consideration I have decided to forgo WSE2012 and build a WHS2011 server to replace my aging WHS1 server. If anyone thinks I have already taken the wrong fork in the road please speak up now!!
I have a QuadCore Q6600 box (4GB ram) recently retired from Vista duties which will be repurposed to WHS2011. My goal is to install WHS2011 onto an SSD drive (all as C:\) , move my internal IcyDock SATAII enclosure (4*1TB disks) from WHS1 to WHS2011 box, and install StableBit DrivePool to retain some Drive Extender functionality.
I'm just unsure what the best order to do things in would be.
Step 1. Install SSD and one expendable SATAII disk and install WHS2011 so that SSD is all C:\ and the D:\ is on the other disk. I have the prodecure for this from the tutorials.
Step 2. Install all Windows updates.
Step 3. Ask for help. At this point should I install StableBit or move the 4*1TB disks over? Can I even expect to just relocate my data disks or will I have to transfer files from one server to the other?
TIA for your help.
