Hello
I've got a mess with IP and DNS settings on Server Essentials and Clients.
Can anyone explain me how to set up the IPv4 settings correctly? I did it like that:
Server Essentials:
-IP: 192.168.1.5
-Standard gateway: 192.168.1.1
-Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1 (which is the router's address)
Client (Win 8):
-IP: 192.168.1.25
-Standard gateway: 192.168.1.1 (always getting a message telling me not to use more than one Standard gateway, but I only have this one!?)
-Primary DNS: 192.168.1.5 (the IP of the server)
When shutting down SE, my client is loosing internet connection (Primary DNS was removed).
I just now disabled Windows LAN Server Configuration Service on my client, as read in a post here. After shutting down the Server, the DNS was still here, and not removed, which is fine - but the client is losing its Internet connection server anyhow. So I have to set it back to 192.168.1.1, but then I get the above BPA error on the Server.
Best Practices Analyzer states that the DNS client is not properly configured. It should be configured to point only to the IP adress of the server. So I would have to set the primary DNS address on a client to 192.168.1.5, which is the IP address of the server itself? I cannot resovle this error message.
Are my settings correct?
