Server WHS 2011, client Windows 7 Home Premium. Both are connected to router.
I've created the USB key and added the drivers for the client from the server backup through the dashboard.
I can boot the client with the key, select 64 bit (as that is what I assume I should since the OS on both server and what will be installed are 64 bit). I have a realtek 8111 built in NIC, when I do a scan of the key, it changes to Realtek GBE family PCIe NIC (or something to that effect). I can proceed and connect to server entering my password, select the backup I wish to use (actually I've tried two different ones). and I've select to let it create the partition automatically, as well as I've chosen the advanced route.
Original drive was a 90 GB SSD OCZ, new drive is a Crucial M500 240 GB SSD. When selecting the auto route, I notice it creates the 101MB sys partition and the balance is the other partition ~233GB). Whats happens is I get to the screen where it is estimating the time remaining, it sits there for a few seconds and fails with the following error in the log file, 'Could not load VDS (0x800800005)'.
After researching, I found that this is Virtual disk Service. TechNet has a work around where they say to hit the back button, and then hold the CTRL+ALT+DEL down to a few second until the command prompt comes up and I should type in the command for disk services, leave the windows open and start the process over again. Several replies indicate that this works. However, as my own little work around I simply used the advances tab, opened disk management and went back to other window to proceed with disk management window open in background. I can see in the background that it is formatting the partitions, as soon as that is done, it fails.
I'll try to copy what it says now:
It creates the volumes, starts with volume <GUID> (what is this GUID?, does that mean its creating GTP partitions?)
RestoreHelper::T_Restore: restoring source volumes
RestoreHelper::T_Restore:sending sendbeginrestorereq
RestoreHelper::T_restore::entering the server queue
RestoreHelper::T_Restore:we're out of the server queue
RestoreHelper::T_Restore:sending resvbeginrestoreresp
RestoreHelper::Get used space bitmap:getting used space bitmap
Failure:Send Get Clusters Req:0
Error: CDialog_Restore::Completed Failed return value 59
Then lists error HR=0x8007003B
I've read where the Realtek NIC causes problems here, is this my issue or is it something else?
Needless to say, this is mildly frustrating.
