Last week my WHS2011 crashed unexpectedly. Several attempted reboots had the BIOS reporting an issue with the SSD, the OS drive. I left the server off for a few days while I decided whether to get another SSD or just another normal drive, and the weekend was looming. During the weekend I thought I would just turn it back on and write down the exact BIOS message before removing the drive, and to my surprise the server actually restarted.
Before long I noticed a critical alert on the server, "Errors exist in a client computer backup", and client backups were no longer occurring. I repaired the backup database as suggested and all was GREEN for 30 or so minutes and then the error returned. As the client backups are in the Drivepool pool and duplicated, I installed Stablebit Scanner to check the pool drives and it reported no disk errors, also Home Server SMART 2013 showed no disk errors.
Repeated database repairs would fix the problem for a wee while and then the error kept returning shortly thereafter. Straight after one database repair I manually backed up each of my 3 clients which was successful and then the error returned again. Subsequent scheduled backups all failed to run.
Then yesterday, crash! The SSD is down again (despite those two apps showing no issues). I have removed it now and sent it in for warranty replacement. In the meantime I have restored the OS to a new standard HDD (that went very smoothly by the way) and all was looking good for a wee bit and now that error has returned again.
I notice that part of the resolution states "Before you repair backup, ensure that you resolve all alerts that are related to Server Storage". I am not aware of any Server Storage alerts (the client backup alert is the only alert in alert viewer) and after replacing what was evidently a faulty SSD I am unsure what else the problem could be.
Does anyone know how I can track down these Server Storage alerts, or get the backups working again?
