Hi,
About 9 months ago I built myself a WHS 2011 machine with a nice cashback deal on an HP ProLiant Microserver. Although all installed and working, for a number of reasons I have not yet actually got round to properly using it but now want to get everything sorted.
However before I start the big changeover, I am wondering whether it is worth sticking with WHS2011. I knew that MS was phasing out WHS but it seems that any/all support is ceasing which makes me wonder whether I should look to something else. It seems a shame as WHS seems a robust and solid system, especially as I am mainly using for central file storage rather than backup of client machines.
I obviously want to ensure continued good integration with all of my Windows clients which include XP, Vista, Win7 & Win 8 machines but with each iteration of windows, are MS likely to "forget" about WHS2011 users which could make everything more complicated than it currently is?
I guess my big question is, how much life is there left in WHS2011 as a well integrated server platform to the MS family?
Many thanks
Andrew
