Hi all,
My WHS2011 Server is having problems backing up itself (to an external HDD through USB 3.0). I've had a few crashes (played around to much with new CPU / undervolting I guess), so prolly my fault. Symptons included:
- Clients not being recognised as Online
- Backup status of clients shown as Not set up.
Anyway, all is fixed now except that the Server backup is taking ages and does not in fact complete. It is now at 30% after running for 14 hours. Total backup should be about 1.3TB of which 0.9TB are Client Computer Backups. I am considering re-installing WHS2011 fresh.
Typically I see in Resource Monitor:
Image -- PID -- File -- Read -- Write -- Total -- Response Time
wbengine.exe -- 4660 -- \Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy172 -- 132.252 -- 0 -- 132.252 -- 8
wbengine.exe -- 4660 -- H:0\WindowsImageBackup\Servername\Backup 2014-01-02 220006\1dcce975-73b6-11e1-b521-806e6f6e6963.vhd -- 0 -- 132.683 -- 132.683 -- 4.529
That is, very low IO on a shadowcopy(?) and a VHD (which, I do not know why appears to be on the H: drive which is NOT my external backup drive.
No clue what it is doing.
Now my question: I had disabled Shadow Copies on most drives and would disable Shadow Copies on all drives after a re-install. Is there any link between Shadow Copies and Server Backups??
