First let me say I'm a long time lurker but first time poster, so be gentle! And if this has been discussed in the past and I overlooked it, please point me in the right direction.
I have installed and re installed many copies of WHS 2011 on many machines over the past few years and one issue that always comes up even on a clean install is random windows update failures. Lets assume a clean install and you need 100 updates, about half fail to install. So you reboot and now you have about 50 or so left, click install and you might get half of those to install. Not being literal here, just using BS numbers to give you an idea.
I have noticed I don't seem to have this issue installing a fresh copy of Server 2008 R2. Since WHS 2011 is based off Server 2008 R2, I don't understand why one would have the issue and one wouldn't since I am referring to installing them on the exact same hardware.
Anyone else experience this? I can see a install becoming crap over time and failing updates, but clean installs right off the disk? Just seems like this has to be a known issue with a known fix.
At the end of the day you can get all updates installed, so I'm just more curious more than anything and would like to solve this issue out of pure curiosity.
