In the book, "Using OS X Mavericks Server at Home," Terry seems to suggest that each client computer in the house be set to use the IP address of the server as their DNS server, then set the server DNS to use the router IP address, and the router uses an external DNS server.

While that works, the problem with it is that the DHCP server in the router automatically gives out the router IP address to clients, so each manually has to be changed to the server address.

The second way to do it is to let clients use the router IP address as their DNS server, then in the router, you can put in the IP address of your server, with your server now using an external DNS server for its DNS server.  To me its seems like this second way is easier to maintain.  What are the arguments to go with the first method over the second?

Terry Method:  Client  --> DNS in Server --> DNS in Router --> External DNS

2nd Way: Client --> DNS in Router --> DNS in Server --> External DNS
