Hi
I have an HP Media Server 490 and I appear to have done a stupid thing - I've been trying to remote desktop in from my mac and it always complained that the certificate could not be authenticated and refused to let me in. However, from a Windows PC I could connect.
So I thought I'd do something about it. I did a search for what to do - found some suggestions about Administrative Tools and Services, etc. Remoted onto the server, looked around for some stuff, opened up Services and found something like "Remote Desktop Services" (I can't even remember what I clicked, as I didn't think it would have such an extreme effect) and enabled it.
Then closed the remote connection from the Windows PC and tried to connect through the Mac (using RDC 2.1.1) and this time, instead of it complaining about the certificate it just said:
The Mac cannot connect to the Windows-based computer.
This problem can occur if:
- The Windows-based computer is not set up to accept remote connections
- The Windows-based computer is not turned on.
- The Mac, or the Windows-based computer is experiencing network problems.
Hmmm, that's odd, I thought. So I went back to my Windows 7 machine and tried to connect using Remote Desktop from there - same problem, same error.
What have I done?? And how am I ever going to get back onto my server?!?! Looking at the back of the server, there's not even a port for a keyboard/mouse or monitor ... it's remoting in or nothing. How can it be that easy to disable remote access to a server?!
Is there anything I can do to reverse what I have done?
Thanks in advance.
